“We would recommend the High Caliber team of Bill with Sherri without hesitation. They were respectful of our time and availability and did a lot of preparation to make our part of the process as smooth as possible. Sherri took our concept and designed a house to meet our needs and to take full advantage of the views and to blend in with the unique topography of the lot.
During construction they solved significant unforeseen issues quickly and efficiently. We were impressed with their working relationships with county officials, sub-contractors and suppliers.
Bill followed up with post-construction concerns promptly.”— Greg & Carol H

Custom Design-Build Home
Ivy/Albemarle County

High Caliber was involved early in this project as there were pre-lot acquisition questions concerning the proper placement of a home on this beautiful but topographically challenged parcel. After the land was purchased by our clients, the home design was a collaborative effort among our architect, Sherri Tracinski, myself and our clients.

The start of the construction was delayed by several significant snow events and the later discovery of a major run of granite on the edge of the home site with setback issues on the other side. Despite the early issues, the Arts & Crafts inspired design sits beautifully on the site and combines a 2-story Main House with a finished Terrace Level and a roomy 1-bedroom In-law Apartment above a large 2-car Garage. The style, colors and feel of the home are a combination of the Arts & Crafts period style plus the well-traveled American and British influences the couple brings to the table. The Scottish Pub/Home Office in the Terrace Level is reminiscent of establishments in Carol’s native homeland.

The combination of earthtone HardiePlank and brick on the home are deftly combined with stone accents on the retaining wall as well as on the Front Porch and rear patio. The Deck is Trex with metal pickets, helping to preserve the great views of the pond and rocky hillside from the Great Room, Dining Room and Kitchen/Breakfast Area. The majority of the floors are #1 red oak and are enhanced by a striking decorative band in the Foyer. The use of intricate ceramic tile floor designs lend a highlight to both the Powder Room and the Master Bath. The home is very much tuned in to the trend towards sustainable dwellings with its geothermal heat pump, solar hot water panels and a power producing full solar array.

The family of 5 is now happily ensconced in their very private glen in a home which is at once both comfortable and stylish.
